Dr. Heamee Kang Kim is a distinguished conductor and concert artist whose career spans the prestigious stages of New York City and Seoul. As the founder and visionary behind the Underwood Orchestra, she has dedicated over a decade to fostering orchestral excellence in the New Jersey community.

A celebrated organist, Dr. Kim earned her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the Manhattan School of Music, following her undergraduate studies at Yonsei University. Her scholarly work on Aaron Copland and her studies under masters such as McNeil Robinson and Dr. Dennis Keene have shaped her into a versatile leader of both choral and instrumental ensembles.

From conducting at Carnegie Hall to performing at the Church of the Ascension, Dr. Kim’s artistry is defined by her commitment to the “Next Generation” of musicians. Since 2011, she has led the Underwood Orchestra with a passion for bringing world-class classical music to the Chodae Community Church and beyond.

A Legacy of Music

We began performing as a formal concert orchestra since 2011, honoring the legacy of missionary Dr. Horace Underwood through our signature Underwood Concerts series. Building on this foundation, the Underwood Orchestra was fully established in 2015, now comprising highly skilled professional musicians dedicated to delivering performances of unparalleled quality.
